Soft corals, such as sea fingers and sea whips, are soft and bendable, resembling plants or trees in appearance. Instead of stony skeletons, these corals develop wood-like cores for support and fleshy rinds for protection. They’re known as ahermatypes, or corals that don’t create reefs, and they don’t always have zooxanthellae.
